Welcoming Tom Griffiths to the Team

Note: This article was last updated on June 1, 2021 and may contain outdated information.

We’re pleased to welcome Tom Griffiths to Mutual as a developer.

Finding developers who share our approach to building things has never been straightforward. We need people who care about the details, who think about the humans using what they build, and who can balance technical excellence with practical delivery. Tom fits that description well.

Solid Foundations

Tom comes to us with a strong grounding in modern web development and a particular interest in front-end architecture. He’s spent the past few years working on projects that demanded both performance and flexibility, learning how to build systems that serve immediate needs whilst remaining adaptable as requirements evolve.

What caught our attention during the hiring process wasn’t just his technical competence, though that’s certainly present. It was his ability to articulate trade-offs, explain complex concepts clearly, and demonstrate genuine curiosity about how different technologies solve different problems. Those qualities matter as much as knowing your way around a codebase.

Joining the Development Team

Tom will be working across several client projects, contributing to both new builds and ongoing development work. He’ll be getting familiar with our typical stack, including Craft CMS, React, and the various tools and frameworks we use depending on project requirements.

We’re particularly interested in his experience with component-based architecture and modern JavaScript patterns. As our projects grow in complexity, having team members who think systematically about code organisation and maintainability becomes increasingly valuable.

The Work Ahead

There’s no gentle introduction here. Tom’s starting during a busy period, with several projects in active development and others about to kick off. That’s actually the best way to learn how a team operates, working on real challenges alongside people rather than hypothetical exercises.

He’ll be pairing with other developers, contributing to code reviews, and bringing his own perspective to how we solve problems. Fresh eyes often spot opportunities or issues that familiarity has rendered invisible, so we’re keen to hear his thoughts as he settles in.

Building Better

The work we do requires developers who care about craft, who think about accessibility and performance from the start rather than as afterthoughts, and who can collaborate effectively with designers, project managers, and clients. Tom’s approach suggests he’ll fit naturally into that way of working.

We’re looking forward to seeing what Tom builds, how he tackles the challenges ahead, and what he brings to the team’s collective thinking about development. Welcome to Mutual, Tom.
