Launching iMusician

Note: This article was last updated on August 2, 2020 and may contain outdated information.

We’ve launched a platform for iMusician, a Swiss music distribution service serving over 500,000 independent artists and labels. Founded in 2010 by electronic music producers, iMusician distributes music to 200+ streaming services while taking zero commission on streaming earnings.

The technical challenge was handling complex distribution workflows at scale. The platform manages the entire lifecycle from upload to monetization across major services like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, and TikTok, plus niche platforms like Beatport and Traxsource. Each service has different requirements, formats, and metadata needs.

We built a comprehensive dashboard using Craft CMS that integrates with streaming platform APIs. The system handles real-time analytics, playlist pitching tools, and flexible pricing models. Artists can choose between pay-per-release and subscription options, maintaining complete control over their distribution strategy.

The platform needed to reflect iMusician’s 25-year commitment to fighting for artist rights. Artists retain full ownership of their music and keep 100% of streaming earnings. The interface makes professional-grade distribution accessible to DIY musicians without requiring label backing or industry connections.

With features including promotional tools, mastering services, and detailed analytics, the platform serves artists at different stages of their careers, from bedroom producers releasing their first single to established independent labels managing extensive catalogues.
